Scouts

Badges, just where do they go?

Information Pack

Welcome to the Troop. This information pack should help you with any questions you may have.

--

Starting off

We meet every Friday from 7.00pm until 9.00pm at the Scout Hut The meetings start at 7.00pm so we expect all Scouts to be on time for the start. The meetings start with a Flag Break and from there we move off and do different activities, badge work or challenges

--

Patrols

When you start, you will join a Patrol. Patrols are run by a Patrol Leader along with an Assistant Patrol Leader. These two will be able to help you out with any questions you have, badge advice anything really or you can always ask a Leader.

--

Uniform

You can get hold of a Scout Shirt and Group necker from the Scout Shop at Marsden Place, down the road from our Hut.  The shop is open on a Saturday from 10.00am until 1.00pm. When you are invested, we will present you with a set of badges for your shirt, your Patrol Leader will tell you where they go on your Uniform.

--

Badges

The Badges on offer in the Scouts now stands at about 70. Some badges are staged, so you work up to completing them over a period of time, These are the proficiency badges and a complete list is available in the Hut and on line at www.scoutbase.org.uk There are also staged Challenge badges and Awards to aim for too. The Badges, Challenges & Awards that are available in Scouts are there for the taking, the Leaders can help and advise however you must do the work to gain the Badge, Challenge or Award

--

Challenges

As well as the badge work and awards, we try and give the Scouts challenges every so often so they can work together and complete them. It might be a simple task for the evening or a weekend camp full of them.

--

Health Form

When you go on a hike, or attend a camp, Scouting day out or activity with the Troop, you will need to have a Health Form. These are filled in and signed by your Parents and we keep then all together so we have any relevant information such as special requirements for food or contact details in case of emergency. One of these forms will be given to you when you join.

--

Kit List

Along with the Health Form is also a Kit List. This list is a guideline on what to bring on a weekend and week camp and also a hike too. Don’t panic if you don't have all of the gear. If you have any problems let us know and we’ll do our best to sort it out. What you'll find is that we've posted a kit List page to give you an idea of he kind of stuff required.

Camps

We try and do at least three camps a year, these are normally a week camp and two weekend camps. On these camps we try and do various activities and on the week camp, day trips are included as well. information about the camps is given out well in advance so everyone has a chance to go.

--

Hikes

As well as the camps, we do a few hikes throughout the year. These sometimes take the from of starting and finishing at the same point or starting at one point and finishing at another. We have even done a hike overnight, slept at a campsite then done another hike the following day. There are quite a few options available to us. On the hikes, you carry your own food and drink and take it in turns to navigate, everyone takes part.

 The Chesterfield District
